Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)
The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is an additional assessment our Social Workers are trained and accredited to complete to give you additional evidence alongside a mental capacity assessment.
What is the Montreal
Cognitive Assessment
The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is a brief, 30-question test that helps healthcare professionals detect cognitive impairments early on. MoCA is the most sensitive test available for detecting Alzheimer's disease, measuring executive functions and multiple cognitive domains which are essential components not measured by the MMSE.
The MoCA test is used in 200+ countries around the world.
All of our Social Workers are specially trained and accredited to complete the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
This additional assessment allows us to provide evidence of whether there is or isn't an impairment of the mind or brain at the time of assessment.
The MoCA can be beneficial in situations such as testamentary capacity where a client's will is likely to be contested, he MoCA can provide evidence, on the day, that there was no identifiable impairment of the mind or brain. This additional assessment further strength to a testamentary capacity assessment.
For those situations where there is a concern there is an impairment, but no official diagnosis has been given the MoCA can provide evidence of impairments, allowing us to have evidence for Stage 1 of the assessment outlined in The Mental Capacity Act (2005).
