Lasting Powers of Attorney

It’s reassuring to know that if you’re unable to make key decisions for yourself in the future, you can choose someone you trust to make them for you, such as a family member or close friend.

 

Making a LPA will ensure that the person you’ve chosen will legally be able to make decisions on your behalf. You can choose more than person including how they should work together. There are two kinds of LPA, one for decisions around Property and Finance, and another for Health and Welfare.

Did you know?

Anyone aged over 18 can plan ahead and make a LPA. That means your chosen person will be able to make decisions and act for you if you lose mental capacity because of a serious illness or accident, whether it’s temporary or permanent.

Keeping you safe

For a LPA to be valid and registered with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), it must contain a certificate confirming that the person making the LPA (The Donor) has full mental capacity at the time of making it.

 

A Certificate Provider is an impartial person who confirms that you understand the significance of what you’re doing and that nobody is forcing you into it.
